Home Studio build

Hey Luke, thanks for the progress photos, its fun to live vicariously through someone else for awhile. Man, you are one Hamer loving guy, that's awesome. My buddy had a Hamer in highschool, I loved his guitar, I probably would have bought one myself if I wasn't so poor back in those days. I wish I wasn't the guy who had to sell everything to buy the next big thing. Anyway, thanks again.

Built some wedges for the CLRs to reside on. There wasn't quite enough room on the outside edges of the desk for them to be outside the desk legs, and inside was too tight, so now I can straddle over.

Building a box for the headless basses to sit on such that the hangers can hold the neck in place. Obviously no headstock = can't hang them like the guitars.

Holy shiznit!

Bruce? Bruce Wayne? Is that you? Admit it dude. You're really Batman. It's easy to tell because of "all those wonderful toys".

That is a TOP SHELF studio right there.

Fantastic build & great photo report Luke! Very timely as I'm looking to do a similar thing (different situation - detached building, double brick walls, concrete floor & ceiling but window & sliding glass doors to deal with).

I've never seen the peg board solution for a guitar wall. Allows for a lot of versatility for guitar placement. A couple of questions:

- How thick is the pegboard?
- Rails for the pegboard to hang on are fixed to studs and then pegboard to the rails only (or through to studs as well) just by wood screws?
- You've got 40 guitars on the wall so it obviously works - do you feel the pegboard assembly is carrying that weight easily (i.e. big safety margin)?

The pegboard is 1/4" tempered, not that 3/16" crap they sell at Home Depot. $18 sheet from Do It Best hardware.com.

To make to the through the 1.25" of drywall I used 4" screws. Obviously a 2x4 is itself 3.5" thick, so I counter sunk the screws 2" deep, which required getting a bit extender.

The pegboard is held it with drywall screws, every sixth hole horizontally and in thirds vertically.

Make sure your middle rail isn't in the way to hang guitars, mine is actually 2" above the middle line to allow the midde row.

Starting to tidy up.

I now own that PRS Raygun guitar.

Getting a little OCD, bass player's zone:

Had three pieces of Roxul left over so I got some wood and made bass traps for the bare wall:

Decided to go horizontal so I can put a cabinet under my SS-100 head:

After several rehearsals I determined the room was too "live". I decided on 1" foam. Since the room has a tan/brown motif I had to hunt down foam to match. I wound up having to special order beige.

Next issue was installation. Normally you spray glue the ceiling, but that's not possible with room done, guitars hanging and such. So I began by trying to spray the foam, out in the garage and carry it in, but the glue tried too fast. I was about to give up when my fiancé, and assistant on this project, suggested we try wall paper glue. So I ran out and bought some, covered the floors with drop cloths and rolled glue onto the ceiling and the back of the foam, and it worked great. Thanks honey!

That's not a studio. It's a Steve Stevens shrine! All kidding aside it looks awesome!

Most importantly, how does it sound to you?
