Help With Sharing Preset

I tried to share one of my FM9 presets with a friend of mine and when he loaded it he said it muted his FM9, including all of his other presets:

"I load your preset and it just mutes my entire rig, I can't get output from anything including all my other presets and even all the factory presets! - I have to remove your preset and reboot my FM9!"

I'm attaching the preset to this post. What would cause this to happen? What should I be doing differently to avoid this?

Thanks!

Alan

That preset is definitely broken. It shows an impossible connection cable when I examine it in FM9-Edit or Axe-Edit.
My guess is that something happened to your computer during or subsequent to the export. Delete the file and try again.

I exported it again. Could you take a look at this file and let me know if it shows the same problems?

Also attaching a screen shot from my FM9-Edit.

I tried importing the original preset but it did not seem to cause any issues on my FM9.

I deleted Input 1 and added it back and the lines went away.

I re-exported the preset (attached) and was able to import it to a different slot with no issues on my FM9.

So just so I understand, the "weirdness" is the patch lines that extend left from Input 1?
Yes.
The input blocks are where signal comes into the device.
There's nothing that comes before them, so there shouldn't be any lines coming into them.

If the preset itself is corrupted in the memory of the FM9, I'd delete it entirely after writing down the settings or creating screen captures.
He's not wrong, the preset is bent.

My scotch tape fix addresses the visible symptom, but there may be other issues we can't see.
I hoped it might be enough, and superficially it seems it was according to your tests, but there's still some concern about weirdness under the hood.
It's your call whether you want to continue with what you have now, or rebuild it from scratch just in case.

Do you by any chance have an older copy of the preset that doesn't have this issue? It'd be quicker to rebuild it starting from there.

I don't mind rebuilding the preset, I was just hoping to learn if I was doing something wrong.

My friend is going to try to import the latest version to see if removing Input 1 solves the problem or not.
Kudos for your desire to understand, but AFAIK, there's nothing you could have done that should have created that nonsense connection going into input 1. Like i said, there's no such thing.

If you figure out some user action that does have that nonsensical result, report it as a bug against the editor, it shouldn't do that.

All of that comes with the caveat that I'm not Fractal support, and i could be wrong, like i am countless times every day. If support pushes back and tells you it's the correct behavior in some situations, please ask them to explain, and post it back here.

OK so I saved the relevant blocks to my library and created a new preset using those and my friend was able to import that without any issues.

He didn't try the updated preset that I had removed and re-added the Input 1 block too.

Thanks for the information and help!

@AlanC just to follow up... was this preset originally something you created yourself, or did you perhaps purchase or download it?

I created it myself.

It might have possibly been restored from a backup from my previous FM9, I can't remember for sure when I created it.

I'm sure it has been through several firmware updates.
