Shelter in place... I'm waiting to see what that exactly means.. it means you can drive for groceries, prescriptions, and for work.

When it comes to work, that's the grey area.
NY started out with a 50% staff reduction, to 25%, and at shelter in place 100% reduction in office personnel... and all the work needs to be completed at home on your computer.... and theres not that many people who can do that. What sucks about not being able to work.... they wont be contributing to thier 401K's... wont be able to buy into the market at such discounted prices... wont be able to profit from it if and when there is a recovery.

I'm working on a high profile highly political construction project... I dont think it's going to shut down.. I'm out in the field, and I work on reports on my computer from both at work.. in my vehicle, and at home.

Where is your paycheck coming from when you are quarantined ? Unless you’re working from home in a cushy tech / finance job etc., a LOT of Americans are going to be running out of money if they can’t work, fall sick and when they get laid off as businesses go south. If you don’t have money to feed your family, pay rent etc., there is going to be widespread unrest and looting is not out of the question.

It just requires a few minutes of thinking through the possibilities instead of seeing everything through a single lens.

Why would the US even need the military at this point?

I've worked a few hurricane catastrophes. Military and national guard come in handy for controlling and/or limiting flow in/out of places subject to hoarding rushes, and it helps cashiers enforcing purchase limits. When shelter-in-place comes, we'll need them, and I'm sure they're already positioned to move in or preparing to position on short notice.

Things are turning out even worse than I predicted. I predicted 250K cases by the end of this month. Unfortunately I was much too conservative. At the current rate there will be over 1M cases by the end of month. Probably around 1.5M. Around 100K deaths. You don't want to know what the math shows for the end of April.

Worldwide, end of March - The 1M to 1.5M confirmed cases wouldn't surprise me, but my guess would be 40k to 60k deaths.

India is a real wild card though. Surprisingly low numbers so far with 1.36 billion people.

Quite surprising, but their testing is sorely inadequate too. If you look over the last few days, you can see that insidious exponential curve in the number of cases. They may just be lagging the US by a couple of weeks. If the virus gets a foothold in India, it will be a shit storm like no one can imagine.

You just asked “why loot” and I told you one scenario. I know multiple full time musicians that think this shelter in place is bullshit, because they don’t have income for the next 2 months. They are healthy and from their point of view, the government is overreacting and killing their income. They can maybe weather through a couple of months, then they are out on the streets.

And yes, I’m well aware of the news. Are you able to stop gorging on all the “breaking news” for a moment and think this through.

In the next few months, we will explore (and maybe experience) all of our worst fears. The possible loss of loved ones, and maybe ourselves. But we will yet prevail. It will not be easy. Most of us have seen that now. The only way forward is the love of fellow humanity. It might mean that we stay in our houses to protect those more at risk than we are. It might mean that we need to donate some of our nest egg to help those who really need it right now. It might mean that we put aside any political meandering for the goal of saving someone you don’t know. The answers are easy…the questions hard.

We’re all in this now. It’s how we respond to it that will define us.

My point is that people (not saying you, sorry for the misunderstanding) will find "reasons" to explain why they dont need to, or shouldn't wear masks. Tell me about it. Most of my family and friends back east voted for the current admin and a few of them have actually been believing the BS coming down from the top dog. We're on day 7 of our self quarantine and they are just starting! They're my blood but they are f**king stupid.

Local mayor of a town in Florida that has beaches was on the news answering why he hasn't shut things down. He answered along the lines of "We're trying to balance public safety and civil liberties here."

STUPID!!!!!!
