Health Update

It’s crazy how your whole life can change in an instant. Long post so here goes…

I’m sure many of you saw my comment about a health issue a few weeks ago and having to cancel all our gigs and shut band things down for awhile due to a medical reason.
I have recently been diagnosed with stage 3 lung cancer in my left lung.

I started having some slight heaviness and tightness in my chest a few days before our last show back on Sunday Aug 29. I was ok at the show. It was brutally hot but I made it through ok. After the show, I decided to go get checked out the next day.
I went to an urgent care facility near our home and they did a chest X-Ray and CT Scan and discovered a 2” x 1” tumor in my left lung. I’ve been playing shows with a tumor in my lung. How Rock n Roll is that?

I have since been going to MD Anderson here in Houston for diagnosis and will soon start a very aggressive treatment as it has spread to some lymphnodes close by. The great news is that it hasn’t spread anywhere else in my body, brain, blood or bones and the doctors have a curative plan of treatment for it. The key word here being curative. I am so blessed to be in the same city as this hospital. It is the best in the world.

It is going to be a rough few months of treatment but with faith and prayers to the good lord above, the love and support of my amazing and strong wife, my family, my bandmates, my incredible friends and a rockstar medical team, I will beat this and ring that bell.

Many of us have family and friends dealing with really bad stuff right now. Please pray for them.

Much love, blessings and good health to everyone.

-Todd Bishop
Get well soon, hope you're back on stage in the near future.

Best wishes for you...
I really can empathize what this means and how whole life changes because of such a diagnosis.
Not my in person directly but my wife. And so my life also changed too.
This shit is following my wife and me and we recognize it everywhere and more often since she's got her diagnosis Dec 2019.
She's getting now her 2nd Chemo and we hope the best.
Prayers for your wife brother. 🙏

And FWIW, my father had esophageal cancer, the doctor’s told him he had a 17% chance to live and had to undergo a 20 hour surgery performed by two different specialists; they had to remove 3” of his esophagus and a 1/4 of his stomach then stitch them back together. The surgery alone was crazy as they had to start on his chest but finish it through his back. He was in straight shit health leading up to it and he’s still kicking around, being a giant pain in the ass today! That was 20 years ago and he hasn’t had a scare since then. And the bastard still doesn’t do shit for his health!
Wow! That’s crazy!

Thank you guys. Actually feeling pretty good today.

I’ve been dealing with a mild form of pneumonia that is common with a lung tumor. It’s the pneumonia symptoms that sent me to get checked out in the first place. Difficulty breathing and heaviness in my chest. Felt like fluid in my lungs.
Doctors finally gave me some antibiotics on Monday and I feel so much better already.

I start my treatment next Tuesday so I’m in for a fight over the next few months. 6 week plan. Radiation 5 days a week and chemo once a week. Then probably another round of chemo for 6 weeks then ring that bell. 🙏

Looks like I’m going to lose my hair so probably going to go shave it before treatment starts. Would rather lose it on my terms than have it falling out while I’m in the shower.

On a fun note I bought myself a new guitar. Should be here Friday. Jackson Gus G signature Pro Series. I haven’t been inspired to play much lately even with getting my FM9. I’m sure it’s due to a little bit of depression. But hopefully now that I’m feeling better a new guitar and FM9 will inspire me to play a little bit.

Do whatever is in your power to avoid sugar. I've done some reading that says that sugar is like fuel for cancer cells.

Hi @bishop5150 ,

Hair is over-rated. God made all heads bald, and then covered the ugly ones with hair!... Well.. it's an old one eh :)
Good news that the treatment is about to start. They have improved radio therapy out of sight in the last 20 years... It's so much better at being directed to the area of interest only, and avoiding neighbouring areas.
Will be thinking of you! If you get the chance and the inclination, we'd love to hear how it's going. Noice guitar by the way

Thanks
Pauly
