Guitars: how many and brands?

Whoa, people seem to love those EBMM guitars, huh? I've never really thought about getting one, but it sounds like people go nuts for them.

They are extremely versatile because of the piezo and split sounds in the middle position. I actually use my JP6 for jazz quite a bit. It doesn't look like a "metal" guitar either, just kind of contemporary.

Needs a single coil in the middle. (ducks and runs for cover)

I love them all, except maybe the Variax and the Godin Artisan. The variax always has a honking mid range tone running through it (around the 250-500 Hz zone), whichever model you select, and IMO it doesn't do a good job of any of them. I'll probably end up selling it.

As for the Godin Artisan, it's a lovely guitar, but it has a push-pull tone knob with circuitry which shifts the frequency response. After about 10 years of home use, this tone pot went belly-up, I wrote to Godin expecting to be able to buy a replacement unit for it, but they were distinctly uninterested and abruptly informed me that they no longer made or supported that model, basically gave me the finger. This was not a cheap guitar and I expect a lot more than 10 years from a cheap guitar, let alone one that cost £1,000+ in the mid 90s. I was so disappointed that I haven't got round to ripping it out and putting an ordinary tone pot in there.

If (God forbid) my house were on fire and I had to grab just one, I think it would have to be the Gibson Nighthawk, it's an amazingly versatile guitar and sounds sublime throughout it's many varied tones, and it's neck pickup is pure honey and spice, I LOVE it!

  • 1970-something Alvarez acoustic (technically my dad's, but I've had it for about 20 years now since he never learned to play)
  • 1997 or so Epiphone Les Paul Special II - bought it for $20, it's beat up to hell and back, I think the truss rod's broken, but it's been through more bands than I can count and has sentimental value, never getting rid of it.
  • 2007 Dean Dime Shadow ML with upgraded electronics, SD Dimebag Pickup set, and upgraded Floyd Rose trem
  • Custom Neck-Thru 8-string my brother made around 2014 (used a Carvin/Kiesel neck)
  • 2015 LTD EC-1000 ETFM - Transparent Black - my workhorse guitar, tuned to drop-C
  • 2019 Jericho Fusion Walnut Evertune 7-string - in drop-A tuning. beautiful sounding guitar, but 7-strings aren't really my thing
  • 2020 Jackson Pro Dinky Modern Ash HT6 (red) - currently in drop-D, getting more play time because I love those Jackson shredder necks
On Monday, FedEx will be dropping off a:
  • Strandberg Boden Metal 6 in Black Pearl
And as soon as Sweetwater gets some in stock (should be early August), they'll be sending me (it's already paid for):
  • LTD MH-1000 ET - Transparent Black

I'm big on them metal guitars... I think I'm probably going to wrap up my midlife-crisis guitar buying spree with a USA Jackson KE2 in black... a guitar I've wanted since I was 13 years old.
