Guitarists and triggering samples

Just a quick question or two. Are any of you guitar players who trigger samples live? If so, what is your method? What gear do you use? Do you use the FC as a midi controller too?

I need to be able to trigger samples during a performance whether a whole backing track or just samples during a song.

Sorry if its too far off topic. Please delete if need be.

I use a Win10 tablet/laptop for the samples.
I run Reaper to send a click with stereo tracks to the board.
Cantible (free) for one shot samples.
My controller for both is the MC6.
I can start / stop Reaper or send CC note data for the one shots with the MC6.
I wish I didn't need the MC6 as the form factor is not great. As far as I know none of the controlling above is possible with the FC-6.

I do this. Although I have Ableton on a laptop, I was looking for a way to do this without a laptop. And it turns out to be a little more difficult than you'd think. There aren't many devices out there that can trigger an audio file from midi without a computer.

I tried the Electro Harmonix EHX-45000. This a looper, but you can load and play a sample by Midi. There are some issues with this device that made me take it out of my rig. Depending on how you plan to use this, it may be perfect for you (and if so, I will gladly sell you mine).

Right now, I have a Liquid Tracks LT-100 on order that I'm waiting to come in. On paper, this looks like it will do what I want. With this, I should be able to trigger samples by making scene changes (which is how I use these).

Until that comes in, my backup is the Digitech JamMan Stereo (also a looper pedal that allows me to save samples to and retrieve from a memory card). I can't trigger this from the Axe-FX, but it is a reliable backup.

I believe the Cymatic Audio LP-16 will work for this. It’s made to work without a PC. Check it out! 🎸
It doesn't. I asked them

"The LP-16 is capable to playback wav files (in one song you can have max 16 wav file) plus one midi file.
Unfortunately to remote control the device with midi commands arent supported.
The only "remote" option is to trigger the playback with standard footswitch, but to change the song you'll need to use the front panel/buttons of the device

I do this! I use an old iPhone as an iPod, I have a MIDI converter with the Lightning connector and 2 1/4" audio outs that was $100 and use a MorningStar 6 switch foot pedal to control it. The software I use is called Sampl, and it works great! I use it for sounds I make, like gunshots, keyboard parts at the beginning and ending of songs, all kinds of stuff. Upload the MP3s to the iPod, assign them to a footswitch and go!

After make some research the best options I found on the market to play with backing tracks are: AMT EgoGig EG-4 - (RUSSIAN - but they dont have enough information and videos in English...); Cymatic Audio LP-16 and 24 (European) and ZOOM R8 ... apparently FAMC isnt in business any more with the FAMC LT-100 Liquid Tracks... there are other options but discontinued or with poor suport...

If you have backing and click tracks running along the entire song is there a reason why you as guitarist should trigger the samples? I've always let the drummer handle that part of the operation. I'm busy as hell juggling different guitars and pedals and presets already. Besides, if its time based, as the time keeper of the band, I kinda see it as part of the drummer's tasks anyway. After all, he or she is the engine of the band. Unless they are a technophobe with aversion to click and backing tracks. In which case it doesn't matter who handles that part of the job anyway.

Famc is still in business. I realize why many would think they're defunct...
I tried to buy from FAMC. Paypal happily took my money. FAMC didn't respond. After some back and forth, PayPal finally returned my money to me (FAMC never replied to PayPal either). About 3 weeks ago, I got an email telling me that FAMC finally authorized me cancelling my order (the order I placed more than 6 months prior). If they are still in business, they need a better business model.

You as guitarist should trigger the samples because you are soloist or it's your project and others are in or out of the band constantly... or you wanna control all your rig by midi, sincronizing with the samples, for no need to be activating switching systems... and all the tap dancing problem... and about FAMC, English is not my first language, so I think that I don't expressed myself properly... the LT-100 Liquid Tracks are Out of stock... and I think that, apparently, they don't build more that product...

Back in the mid-00’s we had some Yamaha or Akai sampler with big, soft buttons on it. I kept it on the side of the stage and would walk over and slam my fist down on it. It was mostly 808 bombs. This post just brought me down memory lane, big time. Me smashing that sampler was a part of our show....at one gig at the Hollywood Hard Rock Casino (Murphy’s Law) the soundguy had us blaring, the 808’s were distorting and you could see the liquor bottles rattle around, a couple glasses fell off the bar. My bass player and I both looked towards the soundguy to tell him to turn it down but, as typical, he was nowhere in sight. Next 808 blew the stage-right mains. Soundguy didn’t care, he just laughed. Guess he wasn’t the one who bought the PA.

I am looking for this same kind of solution right now. I want to be able to trigger specific samples or loops from my FC-12. (example: I will record the sequencer and the piano part for Baba O'riley, and want to trigger each part in the song by selecting a scene on my FC12, and sending a midi signal as part of that scene.)
I have been using Ableton for years to play backing tracks, but like the OP, I no longer want to deal with a Laptop. I just want a small dedicated hardware device to do the job. The liquid tracks might have been a good option, but it doesn't seem like that company is operating or stable enough to give money to at least.

I am looking at some dedicated sampling machines, but was wondering if anyone else has any other ideas or ways that they do this. RushFan, I', checking into your method... not much info available on that app though. I checked out the Akai MPX products, and that came close, but is not quite right due to the need for the SD card and how slow it loads. It doesn't seem strong enough to load and play longer samples in a live setting.

Man, there is a need for a device here. Could you imagine if the AXE had a built in sample player - like a more robust version of the looper where you could trigger individual loops or samples with a scene? You would have an all in one performance machine. That would be an amazing AXE IV idea, and I would drop my $$$ on it right now.

For apple owners, or I guess Logic Pro bundle owners?, does MainStage work for anyone? Its "built" for the OP's question, but Ive never had any trials with it personally....I thought besides suggesting it, I would ask if anyone uses it for live triggers?
