Hi there,
I'm new to the Fractal world having been a longtime Line 6 user - just making the transition from a Helix that I have been using live for the last few years as an FX processor without using any of the amp modelling.
I'm completely convinced by the quality of FX in the FX8 but am having a bit of a problem when it comes to using the FX8 to switch my amp channels via MIDI.
I'm using a Bluguitar Amp1 which has 4 channels. What I've always done with the Line 6 stuff over the years is set up a preset and use the bottom row of switches to change the 4 channels of my amp and the top row to use as stomp on / offs for the individual FX with the occasional scene change.
From my initial exploration with the FX8, this seems impossible as there is only 2 MIDI blocks available to assign to switches per preset? I've managed to set these up and they work fine. While I realise they can send separate Program Change messages for the on/off state of the pedal, this still doesn't allow smooth switching of a four channel amp if you need instant access to each channel.
This seems very strange considering a MIDI block takes no processor power and so many amps / preamps are controllable by MIDI and have more than two channels. I understand that I'd be able to switch my amp's channels by putting program change messages within a Scene, but then I would also be storing the on/off states of FX within the preset so that would defeat what I'm trying to do. I may be missing something here?
Can anyone help with this as I'd hate to have to run a separate MIDI foot controller just to switch my amp. I see there has been a feature request a long while ago for more MIDI blocks on the FX8 but I very much doubt Fractal are going to be updating anything on this discontinued product.
Thanks,
Frank
