I'm trying to set up some automation using an FX8 (running 5.04 beta) and an iPad running Multitracker for my acoustic act.
I was able to get the FX8 to respond to PC changes issued by a Midi track playing in Multitracker using a direct connection to the FX8 USB input and a Lightning to USB camera adapter on the iPad. I wasn't, however, able to get the iPad to receive Midi commands from the FX8.
When I hooked the FX8 up to my computer running Midi-Ox, I see Sysex messages from the FX8 like this:
Button Press: F0 00 01 74 05 21 21 F7
Preset Change: F0 00 01 74 05 14 00 6F 7B F7
but I don't see any PC or CC messages from the FX8.
If I hook up a MidiSport 2x2 to the Midi I/O ports on the FX8, connect the MidiSport to my computer running Midi-Ox, I see all the expected PC and CC messages issued from the FX8.
So... Is the FX8 USB Midi connection only able to receive Midi messages? If so I'll have to figure out a way to get Midi into the iPad from the FX8 some other way. I have a MD-BT01 which works, but I'm a little hesitant to use it live.
