FX8 controlling a Mesa Mark V 35

Not positive but would think it can control it the same as it can the Mark 25. Search for discussions for controlling Mark 25 on here since I know it was discussed and some solutions were found.

the mark V:25 has a single 1/4 inch TRS jack, the mark V:35 has a multi-pin DIN (looks a bit like a midi plug) plug so it can also control the solo boost, so you need a different solution.

The connection on a Mark V 25 is very easy, you just need a 1/4 TRS cable, I did it my self on a friend MK V 25 and everything works flawlesly, the thing is how to do it with the MK V 35

Is it possible to control the Mark V 35 with the FX8 relays and how to do it?
Is there a wiring diagram to do the right connection?

Or the only way is with the RJM Amp Gizmo or the RJM Switch Gizmo
RJM offers a 2x1/4 interfase cable

Is this cable enough by itself?

Any help on this will be very very appreciated
Thanks
Based upon what I've looked seen on their site, it should work just fine with the FX8. The info on the cable talks about programming a unit to send commands via either tip or ring. It would seem to be a matter of making sure what is controlled by each tip and ring in relation to your Mark V 35.

Any pointers on how to use the FX8 to change amp channels and turn on/off effects with a Mark V combo how to set it up on the FX8? Im stuck.

With the big V is easier because you only need two TRS to TS-TS cables like this:

And just plug the TRS side to the FX8 Relay 1 and 2

The TS TS side to the Mark V

In each scene you can choose (in the relay section)
OFF
Tip
Ring
Both

In this way you can control the channel of the amp, the EQ and Solo functions

I have the Mark V 90 and I'm able to change channels. In Scene mode I can switch between all three. If I'm on pedal mode I set it to "Ring" and I'm able to switch between two. If I hold down the switch I can change from 1-2 to 1-3, for example. Not sure how closely my Mark V 90 is to your's, but I can take a closer look at how it's done. Also, I had a special cable made with all the connections...makes life A LOT easier and setup at shows is pretty simple.

I use the Voodoo Lab Control Switcher. It's cheaper than the Gizmo. I run a 100 watt EVH 5150 iii that does NOT have midi function. The 50 watt DOES. IDK why... anyways, Best-tronics and Voodoo themselves can make a special cable for you if you need it, both companies charge around $40. I ordered from Best-tronics a 5 ft DIN cable that was 5 pin on one end (to "mutli" port on Voodoo control switcher) and 7 pin on the other (to footswitch jack on back of EVH).

What I learned through all this was, just because your amp might use what appears to be a MIDI jack (5 or 7 pin), does NOT mean it's sending MIDI signals. Hope that helps.

That's right!!!
The Mesa Mark V 35 doesn't have MIDI
But is possible to control it with the FX8 easily

Hello,

I am not sure about the Mark V:35 but I think it would be compatible if it has external switching jacks since the Mark V head (100/90 watts) and the Mark V:25 are compatible and controllable with the FX8 as reported by a number of users.

Also,
Here is a reply I got from Trent who is working in Mesa Boogie when I asked him about the logic used for their external switching jacks.

Hi Ahmad,

Thank you fro your interest in the Mark V!

While the footswitch jack of a Mark V uses differential voltage for switching functions, the external switching jacks use short to sleeve, tip to ground latching style switching.

Hope this is of help,

I also got the reply below from Mat who is working in Fractal Audio support when I shared the above email with him.

"The FX8 has two short-to-tip relays. Mesa tells you below that on the amp "the external switching jacks use short to sleeve, tip to ground latching style switching" -- so it could be used with those jacks."

Based on the previous I think that the FX8 is compatible with the all the Mesa Boogie's Mark Five amps (providing it has an external switching jacks) since they use the same logic with all their amps.

Sorry to revive this thread but I need information. I have a Mark V 35 and need to know if it can be connect to an FX8 through the RJM DIN to 2 1/4" cable. Has anyone successfully done this? Thanks!!

I would contact RJM. They are very helpful. Also youtube it. I think I remember seeing something on this..

I sent them an email but they havent gotten back to me yet. I only seem to find people reporting the FX8 working with Mesa Mark Amps that have the 1/4 inch plugs on the back (Mark V and Mark V 25). I was just hoping to get a quick confirmation from someone as I would think thats a popular combination of amp/pedalboard.

RJM replied to my email, great customer service! They said that the relays on the Mark v 35 are short to sleeve or short to ground so their cable should work. I will report back with my results once I receive the cable. Thanks!

Very interested in this. I'm new to using the FX8 in a way other than 4cm and have not used FX8 for switching before, so apologies for asking basic questions... I assume I need a 2 x 1/4" --> Boogie 5-pin, since V:35 is not midi, and use relay function in the fx8 (which is new to me). Would I use scenes to switch between channels? Will I be able to also control the V:35 boost function? I've read through what I can find, including the manual, but still unclear on how it works.
