Free IRs in Celebration of the 80th Birthday of Frank Zappa

I cracked open Mick Ekers' Zappa Gear book: there's no relevant info on the Marshall cabinets, but it says that the the Vox cab came as V4141 (no mention of what speakers were in it) or as the V4141J with JBL D120F speakers. It is implied (but not stated outright) that FZ had the D120F in it, but what is not know is whether he purchased it as the V4141J or that he upgraded the speakers himself afterwards. EMAPP bought the empty cab at auction, and put in speakers, so they should know what is in it!

The speakers mentioned in the link in this post can't be in the Vox cab, since you can't hear that "a few of the JBL K120 12 alnico drivers were blown" on an empty cab. Notice that the lower right speaker is different in the auction compared to the ones on this page.

Maybe there are Ks in the Marshalls and Ds in the Vox.

All, here is a message and a gift for you from Dweezil Zappa. These IRs are selections from a collection he made for a previous tour. If you check him out on https://www.dweezilzappa.com, you'll see that he plans to do a massive cab IR collection next year!

In the spirit of the holiday season and my dad’s 80th birthday, I’ve decided to share some speaker IRs with all of my Fractal Audio friends! The cab IRs come with a unique history. The 4x12 Brit FZ - a Red fabric covered 1970s Marshall cab with 4 JBL D120 F speakers.
4x12 VSB FZ - a Red fabric covered 1970s Vox Super Beatle with 6 JBL D120 F speakers.

The mics used to create the IRs were a vintage white Sennheiser 421, a Neuman U67 formerly owned by Freddie Mercury, and an AKG C12 formerly owned by Neil Young.

The mics were processed using the 1968 "Rolling Stones Mobile Recording Studio", famously used to record albums including Led Zeppelin III, IV, Houses of the Holy, and Physical Graffitti, as well as Machine Head by Deep Purple, Sticky Fingers by the Rolling Stones, Who's Next by The Who, and many others.

The cabs were captured by Dweezil Zappa and Matt Picone at EMEAPP outside of Philadelphia. They have been selected for humbucker guitars but also work well for single coil. All equipment in this session was used courtesy of EMEAPP (https://emeapp.org)

Enjoy the IRs and happy holidays to you and your families! Best, DZ

Really enjoying the Brit FZ 421 s1 D and Brit FZ 421 s4 E with a 50W Jumped Plexi.
Getting some really nice Allman-y sounds out of it....

Preset using the Brit FZ 421 s1 D and Brit FZ 421 s4 E with a 50W Jumped Plexi. Spent a lot of time since yesterday afternoon on this amp and speaker IR combo. Added a few of my usual suspects to round it out to a 'kitchen sink' style preset with a few effects I frequently use added. You'll have to load the IRs where ever you have space and tweak the IR locations if you don't have User1/260 and User1/261 open....
