Fractal Audio AMP models: 5F8 Tweed (Keith Urban's '59 high power Fender Twin-Amp, 5F8)

The clean tones are sweet. For this gibson 335, I need to drop the input drive to 2 and input trim to .7. My G string just wanted to break up before that. For cabs I used the Tweed Double 421 A L/R in stereo ultra res.

Thanks for these posts, yet another interesting tone adventure!

Other famous Twin-Amp players besides Keith Urban: Keith Richards, Eric Clapton and the late Rory Gallagher.

It's nice to see Rory getting a mention on the forum. If I'm not mistaken the picture of the twin is one of his amps that was up for sale a few years ago. I know he also used the 5E8 low power version on European tours in the 70's. Would there be any sonic difference between the two amps, other than the lower power?

Also, for those that haven't seen it, Ampwares is a great source for information on Fender amps.

Yes, that's his amp. Rory is one of my guitar heroes. Great riffs, honest tone, piercing harmonics. I saw him live once.

In today's Rig Rundown by Premier Guitar there is a lot of praise for the Tweed Twin.
We don't get to hear or see it in the video alas.

Also a lot of praise for the C-30 by Matchless (Samson-era), but it'll take some time before we get to that model in this thread series.

And Steven Seagall:

"THEY’RE MOSTLY THE 1958 100-WATT TWEED FENDER TWIN; THE ULTIMATE TUBE AMP, IN MY OPINION . YOU SHOLULD HEAR THESE MUTHAS ! THERE ARE ONLY A FEW IN THE WORLD. I HAVE EIGHT. BETWEEN MYSELF, ERIC CLAPTON AND KEITH RICHARDS, WE BOUGHT ‘EM ALL. THEY WOULD BE ROUGHLY VALUED, IF YOU CAN FIND ONE, AT $15.000 TO $20.000. FOR RECORDING AND GIGGING, THAT IS MY FAVORITE AMP. PEOPLE ALWAYS POINT TO THE ’58 BASSMAN, BUT I SAY, “NO,NO,NO. IT’S THE TWIN !”

So bizarre that this guy is actually a top authority on this subject......

So what stock or other IRs are you guys using with the Twin? setting up a country patch with my tele. thanks

I hadn't read Yek's hints yet and thought the stock #20 was too dark, so I like #21 Double Verb R121 mixed with #102 4x12 Basketweave AX Mix. I'll have to go back and try just the #20 with more treble and presence.

These might be useful too... but remember, they only get you into the ball-park, they don't map 1:1 with the modeler so use your ears not your eyes as the final say.
