I have 1 double switch connected to pedal1. I used both buttons as scene selects and also toggle to different scenes. I also use the hold feature to increment and decrement presets. It is that powerful.

Page 80 of the FM3 manual talks about them. Keep in mind, the term "stand-in" is just that. It's standing in for a switch that already exists in a view or layout in your config, so for example you have the tuner on view 4 but default programming has you holding the right or leftmost switch to page over there a few times. Now you can set an external switch to mirror that hold function with just a tap. You can also set toggle and hold functions on the stand-in switch as well.
