(Firmware) Change hurts (at least some of us some of the time)

Best firmware in history :)

I imagine the Axe versioning script (or Cliff's internal script) goes something like this:

if (major_release) {
fw_version = trunc(fw_version) + 1; // Expect accolades of "Best firmware in all of history!!"
} else {
fw_version = fw_version + 0.01; // Address the inevitable "Everything just went to shit!!"
}

To get a little philosophical, isn't FAS (creator) + Axe (creation) + Forum (users) a microcosm of cultural response to change? IF we take <X> to be any "thing" such as an Axe firmware release, a political system, a president, a religion...THEN:
  • In no case will <X> be universally accepted (if loved) at any one time nor for all time
  • In no case will there not be one or more 'negatively impacted' by <X>
  • In no case will there be complete understanding of <X> (even by the creator or gurus of X!)
  • In no case will <X> be a perfect or complete substitute or fix for <Y> (which it might hope or promise to replace or fix)
  • In no case will <X> not affect the context it lives in and vice-versa (thus inevitable feedback/evolution)

Thoughts??

Disclaimer: I'm thinking about much deeper things these days in my middle-age. If only AF3 nirvana were enough:)
