ENGL Powerball II, one trick pony?

I got an offer to trade my Mesa TC50 for an ENGL Powerball II, the amp is in perfect con', like my Mesa so no problem here.
However, I remember a discussion I had back than with a Powerball I owner, saying that it’s a nice amp but….it is a one trick pony, metal or nothing.
Anyone has experience with the ENGL Powerball II?
