EDIROL UA-1EX

I would love something as simple and small as the UA-1EX to go digital in. However the digital i/o on it are optical mini toslink connector and not the coaxial (rca style) SPDIF connectors that the axe uses. In order to use this you would need additional hardware (there is no optical to coaxial adapter cable) to convert to optical.

I also just came across the Tascam US-144 USB interface that has only coaxial SPDIF interface. It seems a bit more feature rich than the ESI model while still in a similar form factor for practically the same price (street price of 125). Plus its from company I've heard of and have used a few gadgets from.

Has anyone come across anything cheaper to get SPDIF from the axe into the computer? I mean I almost view it like I do a midi interface. You're taking streaming digital data and fitting a hose with the right adapter to pipe it in to a digital environment. I know it requires some hardware but it can't be as complicated as digitizing an analog source.
