Dumb question. Can you plug SM57 Mic Into AxeFX and get sound?

A few months ago I plugged an SM57 mic into my Axe-FX and couldn't hear anything so basically gave up because I figured I needed some kind of interface, etc.

Can you plug an SM57 mic right in the same as a guitar or other instrument? I almost bought a USB mic the other day and thought "wait, why can't I just plug right in?" THanks!

Thanks Chris! I told the guy at the guitar store that but he said if I guitar can plug into the interface, then the mic should work as well.

I guess I'll try to decide if I'm better off keeping my SM57 and going into a preamp, or getting a USB mic.

the Axe-Fx is a guitar interface. other general audio interfaces have a mic preamp built-in. the Axe does not.

I had the V3 for recording long before I got my AFX, but if I was buying now Id get the basic one. You can do everything else in the AFX.

Thanks bro! That V3 looks like a great option. I have a ton of great vocal effects in my recording software so just need to get the voice there. :)
