I enjoyed recording one of the best John Petrucci guitar solos and tried to share with you all the tips and tricks in this video.

He recorded that solo in standard tuning FYI. That random low F# before the C#-D-E etc. lick was probably from tying a cloth around the neck for muting, which ended up capoing the low/high E 2nd fret. (There's a quick one on the high E too, just before the A riff: e13(p2)-15-16-15-13-16-19-16-15 etc.)
