Does Axe-Fx has the note bloom of a tube amp?

I am too sold on this heavenly gadget :)

Simple question: After playing the amp sims on my vox AD30 VT or GSP 1101 (thro 2x12 cab), plugging guitar into a tube amp is like returning home. It is richness of each note and articulation that are the differentiators for me.

Does Axe fx satisfy you in these parameters as well? I intend to use Axe Fx with Cabinet - tone tubby.

I keep hearing about this "tube bloom"... I've never owned a tube amp... could you post an example of what you're talking about? And to answer your question... yes. ;) :D

Wow... That's a great description. Anyone have a clip to demonstrate this?
Hahaha it actually morphs on 8 different time bands (roughly) relative to infinity. Its time travel in music! the mathematics for it is as follows

time relative to notes lowest frequency over time relative to notes highest freq The whole formula is then relative to light travel starting at the lowest frequency and ending at the highest. then its formulated over "time" measured in in milliseconds starting at the First EQ and ending with the final EQ

its physics in music

once you do enough equations you would realize the mathematics is also based on the Fibonacci curve of light.

and for hi gain clips you can check out all my clips (except zuesd bill gates, thats a pod and has no morphing in the EQ)

I play in a cover band, so the initial appeal of going Axe-Fx Ultra route was it's ability to morph into any tone I could possibly need. This was after years of gigging with Rocktron gear, Prophesy, Voodu Valve, Chameleon etc.. The Axe-Fx is the only unit that i've been able to coax tube-like feedback from (letting a note or chord ring out until feedback blooms) So, imo the answer to your question is yes.

I'm in the same boat... used mine last night for the first time at a gig !!
Went great... not all my patches cut thru the mix (live) like I expected.. but that should be an easy fix. I also need to volume match my patches a little better or add a filter block on each [for boost].
And yes, one can get that tube-like feedback quite easily from the Axe-Fx.

yes it does, and in fact it does also vary in sound as tube amps do over the course of a playing session you can hear the tone sorta change like tube amps, in fact i would say it doesn't always sound exactly the same from day to day just like a tube amp. Either that or it's my ears, but sometimes it sounds sweeter than the last time i played it, and sometimes the sweetness morphs in during playing, pretty much just how a tube amp does to me. So either it's yes or just my ears, but the bloom when bending and vibrato that ohm or whua tone yes it does.

Idk, I'd have to call bs on that. It's a digital device that models an inordinate amount of parameters to give you the dynamic feel of a tube, but it should not change over time (as it heats up for example). However, it *is* much more likely that your ears are changing as they tire over time.

Actually i noticed it again last night.
Maybe something else in my chain, a cord or jack or something.
Anyway i've always kinda noticed the same thing with tube amps for as long as i can remember so i figured it was part of it,
sometimes tube amps feel like they they are kinda dead or kinda lifeless and then they sorta come around and sometimes vice versa, like a tube thing..

On a side note, sometimes when i go in to edit an amp the sound of the amp changes just by going into the edit menu, all of a sudden the amp will sound different without touching settings, any idea why?

That is totally out of ordinary, no idea...

IIRC sometimes when you press the edit button there's a slight dropout, a fraction of a second where there is no sound, and your brain fools you and makes you think that what was sounding before the glitch is different.

Re: Does Axe-Fx has the note bloom of a tube amp? Important

Hi

Just a background - I am not a rock/ metal player but like to play blues rock or semi overdriven/ clean tones through Les paul primarily into Blackface Deluxe or Ceriatone OTS or sometimes Plexi. I am not a distortion fan at all.

Well, I have been trying to understand and also debating with myself purchase of Axe-Fx over my favorite tones in terms of Fuchs TDS amp, Victoria Victorilux and Fender Twin reverb Amps. Over the course of one year I intend to buy all of these amps or may be buy Axe Fx now.

For all the Axe Fx players and lovers - Can you bond with Axe Fx plugged into atomic reactor just as you would with Les Paul plugged straight into Twin reverb or blackface deluxe (may be a delay pedal) when so many magical moments happen. When you don't want to out your guitar down and play such nice TUBE amps throughout the night/ weekend!

How real and "attractive" is ODS tone in Axe Fx because that's the amp I love.

If the answer if yes then this will encourage me to buy Axe Fx.

I have the cash in hand and I would make a purchase soon!
Please suggest!

A twin is a complete box. An axefx is only part of the equation, you will need a active monitor or poweramp+cabs.
If you take some take to play with the parameters, the axefx will reward you.

I'm gonna say the axe comes close to a tube amp but doesn't have the "tube bloom" that everyone is talking about. I had a few of my friends over, who are excellent players and axe fx users as well. We had a shoot out with the axe and a port city pearl head with an oversizes port city os cab with a jensen tornado speaker in it. I have been using the axe for 2 years now and have tried it with many solid state fr as well and the atomic active cab too.
We tried to match the port city sound which Is a clean amp based on a bass man. We tried a solid state power amp and didn't get very close. It sounded good but when put up against the tube amp it didn't have the 3d warmth at all. We then tried it using the pearls power amp section and it sounded great but once again when put up to the real thing it fell a bit short but way closer than the solid state power amp. It just didn't have the dynamics that tubes give you, but if I didn't hear the real thing I would be happy with the axe and a tube power amp. So if you compare back to back you will hear the difference, we all agreed that as far as a clean sound that it was the case.
However, the gain sounds and the amp choice you get from the axe can't be matched with the pedals and a clean amp. Its a choice you make do you want 10 amps that sound really good or one great amp. I base everything on my clean sound because I tend to play mostly jazz-fusion music so for me my clean sound is the most important thing so I use the axe as a virtual pedal board. Its great to know that if I got a call for a rock or pop gig I can use the amp sims and get any kind of amp sound I need using the same equipment. Just proves the axe can be used in any situation.
