Legacy Djentish recording using the Axe Fx II

Hi there

I just wanted to share this recording with you. It's my first recording I've made using the Axe Fx II and since I've never had an Axe Fx before I haven't got any experience in dialing in nice tones. Though I rather like the massive tone in this one.
The distorted tone is the Das Metal amp into the 4x12 German Boutique cab and the 4x12 Cali cab. There's no mic. Also at the end of the
chain I have some Medium Room reverb.

The clean tone in the middle break is just the factory preset Stereo Tape Delay. I love it!

TBH I don't remember what kind of setting I used for the swelling cleans at the end but it was one of the factory presets as well. Probably
the Event Horizon or something like that ;)

Hope you like it :)

Thanks man :) The axe fx II is amazing!

I don't really know a whole lot about mixing either. How would you make the mix clearer? It would be awesome if you could maybe give
me a couple of guidelines to go by so I can improve my mixing a little ;)

Thanks a lot guys! :D

@symphx: I would love to post the patch, but I'm afraid I don't know how to export the syx-file so I can upload it :(

@AlGrenadine: Do you mean the glitch-y kind of effect around 0:35? It's just a little cutting in logic. I record the part and then cut it up in several smaller bits. Then I
shorten each of these bits to get separation in the otherwise continuous part and in this way creating the lagging effect :)

That was very cool... Cool rhythmic stuff in there... But the 1 quick lick in there was kind of a tease.... LOL ! nice work...

Well maybe you can! I just haven't figured out how yet ;)

@flyingfadr: Expect plenty more fast stuff in later recordings ;) To me that's one of the things that the general djent-genre lacks a little, although there most certainly are bands that do it :)

Open AxeEdit, bring up your preset. hit Save AS-Export To Preset File. Name it something and remember where you are saving it to. Come here post reply- Go Advanced. Scroll down to Manage Attachments click Add Files, click Select Files from the Upload Files From Your Computer box. Add the file to the post, bingo :)

Since you mentioned that you didn't have experience with EQing, I just wanted to point out that you have some boxy mids going on in your tone that you can cut out a little bit with some EQ. That'd help clear it out and not sound so muffled.

To do this with an EQ in your DAW/Recording software, pull up an EQ plugin on your track and then sweep through the different frequencies to find the muffled/boxy area. You should have a narrow Q/high Q number which makes the part you EQ more narrow and precise rather than a wide EQ band. when you find out the area that is boxy (because you're boosting it a lot) remove some of it and vary your Q to taste.

I don't know if that makes sense, I tried to write it in layman's terms but I don't know how else to do it without showing you, heh. Hope it helps!

I'm pretty sure I get what you mean :) Thank you!
Honestly though I actually scooped the mids quite a bit on the Axe on purpose since the that "djenty" tone is in the mids very much ;) I'll definitely play around though and see if I can clean up the tone using your advice. Thanks man :)
