Digitech Whammy DT midi problem when using Axe Fx 2 Thru

I'm controlling my axe fx 2 with midi via logic pro. Which works perfect.
Now i'm trying to connect my Digitech whammy DT pedal with midi to the Thru port of the axe fx.
My axe fx has the channel 1 and the whammy channel 3.

In logic is both midi tracks connected to channel 1 and 3. But somehow the whammy doesn't work well. It 'sometimes' switches to the requested effect
but sometimes it doesn't change at all OR even change to alot of other random effects which I didn't program.

Do I have to change settings on the Axe Fx 2 to make the Thru port work like it should or what can I do?

What happens if you take the Axe-Fx out of the loop? Does the Whammy work well then?

Yes. I found out that I had to disable 'mfc echo to midi out'.
It works when I use the midi out instead of thru.
So far I haven't found any problems with this method
