Is it possible to have a different colour shown after a long press as opposed a short press?

It is not currently possible, no. However, if you activate reveal holds, the FC will now display the ring color corresponding with the default color for that switch's function.

Feasible, yes. There is a lot of stuff in front of something like this, though. There is no provision for it because during initial development it didn't seem entirely useful, since the foot mostly covers the ring when the switch is pressed. That's why it was decided to go with the inverse video.

He means... the scribble strip has “dark background” and “light text” (inverse video) as opposed to “light background” and “dark text” (normal video)
