Damaged by UPS

Suppose an expensive guitar you purchased used off Reverb was damaged by UPS in a way that is completely repairable, but not inexpensive. Basically a piece of hardware was damaged, but the overall guitar is fine. The goal is to get the guitar 100%, not necessarily to return it or have it"destroyed" to claim insurance value. Anyone have any luck filling a claim with UPS and having them cough up the funds for replacement damaged hardware?
How would you go about handling things?

I'm my experience, getting a claim from UPS is like pulling teeth. Was it packed well and Is the box obviously damaged?

If they do pay a claim they'll take the damaged merch in question---meaning, the whole guitar.

I also don't think they do "partial" claims.

UPS damaged a Mesa 2:90 I bought of Ebay fifteen years ago. It was a pain, but they did end up paying for the repair. My advice is keep the original box, especially if it has damage. Take photos of everything including the packaging and be polite, but persistent.
