Creating a S/PDIF connection with Fast Track Pro & Axe Fx Ultra

Hey guys,

I just checked through the forum for any existing threads on my specific issue but I couldn't find anything related to it.

I have a Fast Track Pro that I use with my Axe Fx Ultra to record. Now, when I normally connect from XLR outs on Ultra to XLR inputs on Fast Track Pro there is loss of quality between what I hear through the monitors/headphones and what gets recorded. So someone told me its because of the A/D conversion and if I use the S/PDIF, I will not have any loss of quality. So I got myself a couple S/PDIF cables and now I am just wondering how to create a connection between the Fast Track Pro and Axe Fx Ultra. I connected the S/PDIF cable between SPDIF out on Axe Fx ultra and SPDIF input on Fast Track Pro. I went into the screen on Axe Fx Ultra where you are supposed to set it to Digital Input and after that, I don't hear anything. What am I doing wrong? Can someone please guide me!? I can't find much info on how to do this either in the manual or the wiki.

You don't set the Ultra to digital input. If you do that, it's looking for input from the SPDIF IN. Set the input to Analog l or r (whichever one you use), set the Fast track to receive 48khz SPDIF in, and you're done. Volume control is no longer handled by the front controls, so lower your monitors, because it might be really loud.
