Cooper Time Cube: a delay through a garden hose. Can we axe it?

Piing

Axe-Master
The Cooper Time cube consists of two rolled garden hoses with a Shure SM57-style microphone capsule on each side used as speaker and pickup. One has a fixed delay of 14 ms and the other of 16 ms.

I've learnt about this device when investigating the gear that Billy Gibbons used to record "Tush": a Las Paul straight to a Marshall Super Lead and the funny Cooper Time Cube.

UAD has a plugin to emulate this device. More info here:

It seems like it has its own character, not just a straight delay:

Has anyone tried to emulate it with the existing delays on the Axe-FX? or, has anyone nailed a perfect match for "Tush".

If you have the plug-in you can capture an IR of each channel. With delays that short an IR will capture the whole thing including the delay. Just be sure to turn off min-phase. The other way to do it is to use min-phase to capture the response of the tubes and then use a delay line to get the desired delay time (use the dual delay type).

I've got some Tush!

1959SLP Treble to 4x12 Brit70sGB12D (I still have to experiment different cabs to get a closer Billy Gibbons tone, but its a good starting point)

A parallel row with Dual Delay > PEQ > CAB > Mixer

Dual Delay:
  • Time L + 14 ms
  • Time R = 16 ms
  • Master Feedback = 0%
  • Mix = 100%
  • Level = -6dB or as required
PEQ:
As shown in attached picture (I have never heard the isolated Cooper Time Cube. I've tuned it it by ear, while listening Tush)

CAB:
1x4 Pig 57 (Stereo mode. One for each channel)
