Convert a guitar to Lower 6 strings of a 7 string

Hey does anyone have any knowledge to share regarding converting a Suhr Modern to a baritone ish setup? I’d like to tune the lowest string to A, then just tune the rest like a normal 6 string without the high E.

I use 9.5 strings on my A440 guitars, what strings would you recommend?

I've put 5-string sets on 4-string basses and it works well. I just choose the gauge I like for a 5-string and set aside the high string.

So ... Maybe using a 6-string set with a low string that's the same gauge you like for the low on a 7-string would work for guitar.

The nut slots may need to be widened slightly so they don't bind. I often just use the wound string as a file to do that.

You'll need to do a bridge setup too. Check the intonation and action of every string. Check the truss rod too because the tension will be very different.

Personally, I'd save up and get a proper Bari. The longer scale length is my favorite part of their sound.
