connecting wah/vol to axe

I asked this a few months ago and didnt really get a definitive answer . When using an expression pedal to control wah or vol what kind of cable should be used . Is a speaker cable ok or should it be a guitar cable . If I understand correctly since there is no actual audio signal ,only voltage ,a speaker able is ok . Correct?
 
I just realized why no one has responded . I didnt specify that Im talking about using the pedal outputs from the ax for the vol and wah .
