Connecting powered monitors through Axe-fx II question

So I am aware that I can connect my Axe-II to my computer through USB and connect my powered monitors through the Axe-II XLR outputs. My question is will I still be able to mix when I'm not playing guitar through the Axe? As in, when I'm mixing my synths, drums, etc. Or else will I need an interface to connect my powered monitors through while I am not playing through it?
