Connecting a MIC

What is the best way to connect a Microphone to the FM3, so I could do some vocal effects and then send it to the front PA?
Do I need a mic preamp or can I connect it directly to Input 2 with an XLR to Stereo Jack?

Input 2 is (2) balanced TRS Line Ins. A microphone will require a preamp.

The best way is to use a mic preamp.

You can connect it directly to an input, but the inputs are expecting a much hotter signal than what your mic delivers. So you'll have to boost the signal inside the FM3 grid. This may or may not result in objectionable amounts of noise, depending on your mic and your application.
