Changing Effect Block CC# not working in FX II ?

Okay, I admit defeat. I'm trying to hook up my Roland FC300 midi controller to my new FX II with moderate success. I got the External Controller/Modifier thing working for the Wah but I cannot get the Exp 1 switch to work. First of all to turn off the WAHWAH1 you need to send CC#97 and the infernal FC-300 oly sends up to CC#95 !!. So, I assigned CC#95 (in the IO->CTL) screen to WAHWAH1 and ... it still doesn't work :-(. I can control any of the FX blocks with the EXP1 switch, but not the WAHWAH1, even if I set it's number to 95, or 56 or whatever. Can somebody provide me any guidance in this regard?
