Cesar Diaz modded blackface Vibroverb for that SRV tone!

Do you want a SRV-modded blackface Vibroverb?

I would very much like to see an amp in the Axe-FX, that is based the amps that SRV used for his signature tone on Texas Flood and much of the rest of his career. They where Cesar Diaz modded Vibroverbs, and some of the mods included solid state rectifiers, disconnected normal channel and vibrato functions (provides more gain), Bassman transformers and more! This provides a very unique amp, and there isn't really anything like it in the Axe (I've played through the Cesar Diaz modded Vibroverb that Fender released in 2003, and I can verify that statement).

I'm sure lots of other people would like this as well!

I've gotten the schematics over the amp from Fender, so if Cliff wants them, he can just PM me :) Here is also the manual and an interview with Cesar where he talks about the mods, the use of different transformers etc:

No worries, I'm a big fan of SRV too, and I suspect Cliff might be a fan as well (I think I heard an MP3 of his playing Lenny or something like that).

Cheers

I voted Yes! Just give me his pride and Joy or little wing tone and we're good.

I thought his tone involved a multiple-amp setup that included a Dumble (Six-String Stinger?). This amp was at Jackson Brown's studio when they recorded Texas Flood and he used it, but I'm not sure how prevelent it was in the mix.

Running multiple amps at once was a huge part of his sound, and the SSS was a mainstay in his live rig for a very long time.

The Diaz vibroverb is a cool amp, but you can easily get good SRV tones out of the Axe-FXwith the existing models. The bassman, brownface, and SVT (w/ skyline tonestack) are the ones I've gotten his sound from without a problem. The mods you mention to the Vibroverb can be done virtually through the Advanced options. I like the 410 bassman cab the best for SRV tones, although I've gotten some good stuff from the EVM12L as well.

For the tube screamer, use the stock 808 and raise the low cut a bit above it's default setting.

Overall, use less gain than you think you need for his sound, turn it up really loud, and try to nail his playing dynamics because that's the real trick to his tone anyway. If you are looking for his gainier sounds, those are typically a second TS set for drive or a fuzz face.
