this is a feature quite often encountered in synths these days. some of the machines (the Blofeld for exsample) hold over 1000 patches - way to many to scroll through.
they added 'tags' to each sound (pad, bass, arp, fx etc), so you could set the category filter to let's say 'bass' and now you scroll though bass sounds only.
a feature like this would make finding a fitting sound a lot easier.
I propose two categories, the first one being along the lines of: clean, crunch, lead, fuzz
while the second tag could be vintage, modern, fx-heavy etc.
