Carpal tunnel syndrome follow up video from a PT

Thanks for you posting this. Another thing for preventing CTS is sleeping with wrist splints on. Many people sleep with their wrists curled. This position compresses the carpal tunnel sheath, which exacerbates the pressure on the tendons. Wrist splints are available at most drug stores. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Thank you!! I was just thinking of looking stuff like this up, and hopla it appears magicaly on this forum! ☺

I'm having some elbow issues. I'll try this out for sure!!

Cragginshred - these are great videos. Thank you! I have two questions -

1. It's a little hard to see where you are applying pressure during the nerve glide bounce exercise - where is your pivot point?

2. The magnesium oil is interesting - is the oil more effective than oral magnesium supplements?

Thanks so much for sharing your expertise!

I had the same thing Davy. You might try an armband that takes some of the stress off of the tendons that attach at the elbow. My Dr. suggested I use it. It is called BandIT Therapeutic Forearm Band. You can look it up and check it out. It worked wonders for me. I had tendonitis in my elbow so bad (from too much guitar playing) that I could not even pick up a cup unless I used 2 hands. BandIT really helped a lot.

Just use mouse with your left hand for a while, and don't rest your palms on the desk or laptop while you type. Carpal tunnel will go away.

From what I read online, the oil is absorbed better than taking orally.

I totally had to laugh!!! I mentioned this conversation to my wife - and she told me: "well, duh! Oral magnesium is a laxative... remember Milk of Magnesia"? So, I'm all about the oil at this point!

Is the spray oil better than the lotion? Same product is a bit cheaper in lotion form is why I ask.

Thanks again for these - actually headed to orthopedic tues to discuss my pain and issues. ;/

@Glad you guys are benefitting from the videos!
@SJB pivot point is the wrist where the median nerve glides through the sheath.

@Geezerjohn yes night splints are crucial in preventing wrist flexion. Anyone who wakes with numb hands should wear them -I have for years. Because I don't have any day time symptoms apart from while MT biking I will not consider surgery. A about conservative treatment and allowing tissues to heal.

I will add last Sat I went on a big ride and put the Magnesium oil on prior to heading out and still got major hand numbness on the descent from all the single track navigation and rattling. With the nerve glides and 'gaping' from the video it subsided 100% afterward and did not resurface all weekend.

Thanks for posting this. I have some magnesium oil on the way, and thinking maybe it wouldn't hurt to pick up some wrist splints as a precaution. I don't often have issues, but a project I was doing for work last Friday had me doing a lot of tedious mouse-work on the computer for much longer than I ordinarily have to, and it did start to add up after a while. I have had numbness in the past, and I always back up and start remembering to do stretches and take a few other precautions when it happens.

Many of you seemed to have benefited from my first hand and elbow video. This one is more toward Carpel tunnel and new methods that have greatly benefited me.

First video if you have not seen it.

Great information! I am 5 weeks out from carpel tunnel surgery plus two cyst (trigger pinky). What I have found out that my ring finger and pinky are weak and I have had to work around the trigger issue........... I also have nerve issued at the neck that contributes to this also. I am seeing a PT but I was wondering how to strengthen them plus retrain them

Definitely see a Certified hand specialist (CHT) at least for a few visits, you will thank me later!

Sorry just saw this, pivot point is the wrist, pressure on finger tips. Magnesium spray is better for this use due to how superficial the median nerve is and how little 'meat' there is there allowing it to bind to the calcium receptors more effectively
