Cab settings for a live room?

Help me here. It's always seemed a little strange all of theses FRFR cab settings for live playing. It seems ideal for direct recording. But all the air and proximity and eq for live playing -- and I do it too, just seems strange to me. Am I missing something in the logic here? We're adjusting settings for cabs in the room before they're actually in a room which will have their natural room sound. Huh?

I don't do any recording currently, so my use of the Axe FX is mostly for "live" scenarios. I run it through two CLRs all the time.

I don't add air or room or proximity to keep things simple. I'm careful with any reverb use for the same reason- see what the room conditions are before adding any verb, etc. I'll pick my IRs carefully and then adjust EQ and reverb/delay mixes once I'm in the scenario.
