Building a better Bass preset

I'm putting together a "minimalist" preset for recording bass guitar. It's going to be Compressor, Amp Block (Citrus Bass 200), Cabinet (8x10 SV Bass (RW)) and a small amount of delay. Where should the Compressor go? Before or after the amp block, or after the Cabinet block?
 
The issue is not "where does it sound best" to me. The issue is "where does the compressor go if I'm needing it to act to better control levels". I'm having issues with output clipping and input clipping into my digital recorder.

If it’s taming put a multi-band comp at the end of the chain offers you more precision. You can target the high power frequency bands that are causing clipping and leave the rest of the output alone.
