The elusive and almighty Buckethead has given his first ever podcast interview revealing his voice, many personal troubles he's had, and so much more. As a huge Buckethead fan I never would have thought this would happen in a million years. He did one magazine interview a long time ago but his voice has almost never been recorded. (a few mumbles with a weird voice don't count. Also there was one song he sang quietly on)

The interview was with him and his therapist. He talked about a lot of subjects but there was a huge bombshell that came out. He said that he's had heart problems over the past years and had heart surgery. The heart surgery didn't fix it and sometimes his heart beats really fast and he gets scared he's going to die. This has given him a sense of urgency in life and he's doing everything he wants in life as if every day could be the last. This explains why over the last 5 years he has recorded over 260 albums. It's really incredible what he has accomplished over these past years.

He also talked about his social anxiety which has made it hard to call and talk to people and how the mask is what allowed him to overcome it and go out on stage. He also said his parents died a few years ago and that he is really sad, but when he plays guitar it's like they are in the music and he can communicate with them in the music because when they were alive they always liked it when he played to them.

Overall he sounds like a really special and caring person, which is how I always pictured him to be. Everyone who is a fan or even knows who he is should go listen to the interview right now.

Sad to hear about his health issues. Everyone should live like this. Last time I looked, the mortality rate is running pretty close to 100%. Tomorrow is promised to no man. His health issues have given him a perspective that more people should adopt. One of these days it will be the last.

Just be careful because you could end up with almost 20 7 string guitars and then find out you'll be fine and just have to be on a special diet

That's what happened to me about 15 years ago. I was under 100lbs. Couldn't hold food down. Always felt faint. Had horrible stomach cramps, so bad my body would go into shock and I'd sweat like crazy and my ears would ring. After going to tons of doctors and specialist and spending tons of money, an intern at my regular doctors office recommended I get tested for Celiac Disease. My doctor wasn't happy with her recommendation and said barely anyone had it and there's no easy way to test for it. The intern said I just needed to get a blood test. Sure enough, she was correct! I went on a Gluten free diet and my health dramatically improved. Recently I started getting stomach cramps again and my doctor had me try a low dosage of an old medicine that's being used off label for pain. It's non addictive and less than $10 a month without health insurance. It worked so well that I've been able to eat Gluten again with no issues!

Thank you for sharing this. I didn't realize how much material Buckethead has recorded. I spent most of last night listening to him. I can't believe how diverse he is. Really inspiring to listen to. I didn't even attempt to play guitar afterwards because I'd be put to shame haha. Today I'm going to try to find out more about his gear bc I really like the FX he uses. It's really expressive and emotional sounding.

Buckethead caught my attention a while ago when I watched one of his videos where he's in his bedroom, sitting on his bed playing bass and he's playing some of the Louis Johnson bass thumping (Slapping) riffs from his Starlicks Master Series Bass Instructional video. I used to worship that bass video when I was a kid but could barely play any of the lessons bc my hands are too small and fingers aren't long enough.

I really hope Buckethead stays healthy because he would be a terrible loss. We've already lost way too many musicians in the past few years.
