Big Wreck War Baby lead tone

Anyone have thoughts on how to achieve the lead tone on Big Wreck's War Baby?

It's got a very distinct character to my ears....

I love anything Ian Thornley does (musically) but have never tried recreating his tones. I did a little digging and came up with this which basically shows a Suhr Head with a CAE 4x12. At 6:47 he solos over the War Baby progression.

I also found an interview from last year where he talks about gear:

Thanks... I had a feeling it was a Suhr or PRS amp.

I'll take a read through the article you linked.

After several listens, including the video above, it really seems as if he has the guitar right on the edge of feeding back... Or else there is some sort of effect giving it that feel. It's very cool!

Agree on the near feedback thought. If I was trying it I'd go with a gentle fuzz into a compressor and see if that got me close. Then lots of volume vs maybe a freq out? But I don't think that's the whole story.

And getting Ian's fingers would help me tremendously...

Great video. Turns out I still need his fingers... But I forgot I need his voice too.

Unsure if that vid helps on the tone question though.
