Beyer Dynamic DT880 vs Blue Lola for dialing presets

There have been several discussions in the past but perspectives change over a period of time so wanted to ask again.

I would love to buy the Atomic CLR for dialing presets that translate well to FOH, but budget is a concern at the moment.

Was going through @austinbuddy's blog and read somewhere that Blue Lola's are pretty good for dialing presets and really come close to dialing presets on the Atomic CLR.

I started revisiting the headphone discussion threads and looks like most people recommend either the DT880 or Blue Mo-fi/Lola.

The frequency curves show that the DT880 is the more neutral than DT770 and Blue Lola (with a spike around 4khz-8khz range).

What are your personal experiences and preferences. Appreciate your feedback (including austin buddy).

PS - I have a DT770 as cans Presonus Eris E8/Yamaha MSP5s as monitors.

I really don’t think your gonna find what your after with head phones. You would be well served with a yahmaha dxr10 or for a little more a QSC k10 2.0.
Either are half the price of the atomic, exponentially more powerful and only a few hundred more the the head phones which serve only 1 purpose.

Now that I have my pro studio I don’t really use headphones for dialing in presets, but I
did use both brands prior to that in apartments to good results that translated great for recording at least. Bottom end will fool you on headphones, that is the tricky part. And be careful of your hearing!!!

I think both of those headphones are excellent and would recommend either. A little birdie told me some Fractal folks have used the Lolas at times. Lolas are totally sealed (no bleed of sound out of headphones to outside) while the DT880s bleed some. The other really important thing is to get the lowest Ohm version available, like 32 ohm — it makes a difference in the feel and loudness.

Hope that helps!
