Also appears to be playing through the stage monitors as the sound changes quite a lot as the camera moves closer to him standing behind the monitors.
however he could just always be loud in the monitors... dunno.

after viewing it several more times... he may be using it as effects only... would explain all the other hardware on stage and he don't appear to plugged in the front.

Man, his playing is always astounding. What Ibanez is that he's playing...looks like an arch top s-type? Yeah, I'm sure it is effects only...no way he would crap on Carvin amp-wise. It was about a year ago I got to sit about that far away from him for 5 hours at his alien guitar secrets class. What an amazing experience.

When I see a video like this, I can't help but wonder how much the celebrity is getting paid. There's no way he's so excited about this thing that he'd just throw a video on youtube. As a matter of fact, I betcha a hundred dollars he'll never use this "device" again. That said, Steve deserves all the money he can get. He's a living guitar god, and a heck of a guy.
