I am just re-posting this. Jeffery over at the Yahoo U2 group posted this today.

The Edge and Fractal Audio Axe FX II

Summer of 2010 I ran into Dallas at Guitar Center Hollywood. Amongst other topics, I told him about the Fractal Audio Axe FX. I told him that I'd forward the info to him at Principle Management the following Monday.

Seems he was interested enough to check it out. Seems the murmurings that he's been using one is true.

I've heard some in-ear monitor mixes from the S. American shows where Edge mentions Fractal during soundcheck. Seems he was A/B-ing sounds.

It also seems that it will be used, at least for smaller promo shows as one was in his rack for the Oct 15th, 2011 Clinton Decade of Difference show at the Hollywood Bowl.

Have a good look at this photo from the Clinton Decade of Difference. Look at the unit in the bottom of the rack. Big square green display.

Now look at the Axe FX II. (At the link below)

Looks like a TS9 pedal to me. I've heard the IEMs from Portugal where they clearly talk about the fractal and Edge is very positive about the whole thing. Was interesting. Later shows there's no mention of the Fractal for the line out / patching list. Personally I think part of the Edge's show is crazy amounts of gear and guitars.

Yup, definently a TS9 pedal. Easy to see in first picture, but can see where it looks like axe-fx on the 2nd and 3rd pics.

I haven't followed the progression of Edge's rig in a while but at one time there was a couple of Line6 pod pro rack units in the mix, which always seemed quite odd to me given the stature of the man/band, but I guess those units contibute to the overall Edge tone somehow (delays I guess) - sure would be great though to see the AxeFx knock off some of the Edge's L6 stuff. From what I know of the Edge though he may need 4 or 5 AxeIIs in there just to make sure things don't become too simple!!.

I'm sure he'll be an Axe II user someday. However, that is definitely not an Axe II, but a tubescreamer.

I'm a djent djent meedley meedely meedely type player...

Sent from my iPod.

It's a pedal. You can see the shadow of the pedal drawer on the bottom left underneath where the pedal is.

a bit off topic, but times sure have changed.i was a young teen when U2 first hit the scene.i enjoyed their music alot, but back then if you nailed the Edge's tone and someone said "wow, you sound just like the Edge!"it was akin to telling a bassplayer "Wow,your almost as good as Michael Anthony".;)

I've heard there's actually an IEM recording going around of Edge A/Bing his rig with an AFX during a sound check. That guy has so many effects units, I think it'd be weird if he didn't have one.

Yeah, definitely, the 4th photo ...80.jpg really looks like an Axe II, a real one, with the logo.... :))))

Nah I think the whole thing looks like photochop to me ;)

:lol

Oh yeah. Definitely a pedal in the 1st three. Someones on something if they think that's an Axe :)
