Hi all,
I haven't been around for a while, just came by in order to announce some Gordius news, I notice there's quite some action going on on this forum right now (fresh news) - so let me add some to it
I have been working on a next generation of our Gordius controllers, earlier today I got my first prototype electronics running, so I thought it's safe to start mentioning some of the new features to be expected with this next generation Little Giant. Second reason to come here today is because I was contacted yesterday by a generous Axe-FX + Gordius owner, who proposes to borrow me his spare Axe-FX for some time. Which means I will consider adding some extra Axe specific features to the new product (displaying Axe preset names and stuff...), something I didn't plan to implement until yesterday.
Apart from this, here's a shortlist of the new features in the next-gen Little Giant :
- phantom power and 2-way MIDI communication through a single standard MIDI cable (7-pins MIDI OUT connector)
- can be AC or DC powered (so there's no dependency on how the internal wiring of the Axe 7-pins connector is done)
- new-generation high quality OLED graphical display (128x64 dots, extremely high contrast)
- extended possibilities of the 4 stereo input jacks : each jack is configurable as expression pedal input or input for 1 or 2 external switches. The external switches just extend the bank size of the controller : as with the internal switches, each switch can be configured to be of any type (preset, IA, momentary, trigger, ...), this configuration can be different for each bank.
- highly extended number of presets : the current limitation of 186 presets + 32 stompboxes + 32 momentary switches is removed. In theory, up to 4000 presets can be defined of each type, so let's call it virtually unlimited. Same thing for the number of banks, number of songs, number of setlists. Of course the total available storage space is also increased substantially. As before, the complete memory structure is not fixed but dynamic, which means that the storage space can be used for whatever type of setup elements you need most (storing huge sysex messages, huge setlists, huge number of different presets, huge number of banks with smaller presets, ... whatever fits your setup approach best)
Obviously all this comes on top of the extended feature set of the current product, which is listed in the user manual - available for download at http://www.gordius.be
We will also be working on a new, platform independent, editor to support setup of the product.
Release roadmap :
- orders can be taken from now on - there's a waiting list building up.
- we expect to have the new hardware ready for release with current firmware on relatively short notice (< 2 months from here). This means that the product will have the current feature set plus the hardware enhancements (phantom power, new generation display, customizable jack inputs)
- the extra features and support for the increased setup size will be unlocked through free firmware updates in the course of the following few months (updates are easy through USB)
- the platform independent editor is expected to become available along with the extra feature updates. The original product release with current firmware will require the current Windows editor
- regular roadmap updates will be emailed to waiting list subscribers
Regards,
Xavier
