I'm a 50/50 on tone in hands versus equipment. If you have really good amps/pedals or an Axe FX III, I feel like your playing style (and skill level at different music/playing styles) is translated better by a better rig that's what you're looking for. Yes, great guitarists can still sound awesome through about anything. However, the freaking lights come on with great equipment versus not having it. Helps the confidence levels with playing as well. Just depends on each person and what they're comfortable playing through and what they are skilled at playing. Just my humble opinion...
It's definitely in action and pickup height ... and possibly that knob labeled Volume :) But definitely not the knob labeled Tone :)

I'm still trying to find the knob labelled "Suck" so that I can turn it down some more.

Not bitching, just amused by the direction the thread has taken. ;)
It reminds me of the time last year when everyone was desperatly waiting for the FM 3 to be released and the thread was so CRAZY 😃😃😃

By the way:

With the FM 3 and the AXE FX 3 of course we all own the best digital modelers and were very happy with them but since Cliff released the first Cygnus beta and wrote about it everyone thinks "Nah, it feels and sounds OK but when will we finally get Cygnus and be happy again?" 😭😃

Who wants to bet Cliff went back to the drawing board and he will surprise us not only with Cygnus 17 but also all new factory presets ?

Personally, I'm not sure why I haven't just removed all the factory presets. I never look at them and they just slow down the bootup when they're loaded into memory. Maybe I'll do that tonight, then instead of all my presets being in the 300s I can actually like in 1-10 where numbers are memorable.

They're good for demoing what is possible, and on fractal a lot of the sounds are more usable that some of the out-there kitchen sink sounds on other platforms, but I almost always just custom make presets for what I want.
