Axe-Fx II "Quantum" Rev 6.00 Public Beta

FYI, I had to restart my PC to get my XL working on USB again after the update, in case anyone has the same issue.

I won't be near my rig for a few days; help a guy out and let me live vicariously through your experience(s)!

Anybody dig in deep and check out the new modeling changes yet?

I'm particularly intrigued by this: "Improved Amp block output transformer to power tube interaction modeling. This results in less “smear” in the overtones when the virtual power tubes are driven into clipping."

Don't anybody dare breath.

I've been looking for an excuse to upgrade to the XL+ but I figured when I do the AxeFx 3 will be announced. How are the wahs? At least I'll have the Ax8 update to look forward to.
XL+ was the best gear purchase I ever made. I held off until there were features I felt were important like a built in backup rom chip, faster processor, more memory, etc. Coming from the tube world, I'm blown away by the modeling.

Q6 sounds really nice on the Cameron and Mark 4 patches I tried. Unfortunately volume was not an option tonight so I'm looking forward to tomorrow. I did notice possibly more clarity in string separation while playing extended chords. Scrolling back through previous firmware.. Q3 to Q4 is a huge difference, 4 to 5 is a subtle difference. 5 to 6 is another big difference but maybe not as much as 3-4. That's my 2 cents, okay sorry for interrupting.

Of course it will. It will also unleash the wrath of vocal opponents.

While I understand and respect that some use a specific version that they like, i don't understand why this should affect everyone with a Mark I/II.. As of now nobody with a MK I/II gets the new stuff.. If the old versions are removed to make storage for new stuff, and you use one of these versions, then DON'T UPDATE...!! The current position is kind of like the socialism idea that everybody has to be equally poor...

Man... I can see both sides of it, but it still amazes me people would want to be left out of updates because they are unwilling to move forward. all 4% of them...

Maybe that 4% includes hardware-upgrading major touring acts. But I wish I could envision upgrading soon, but music is not my main source of income yet.

By "yet" I mean probably for the remainder of this current lifetime.

Mk2 user here, and in love with it.
Never use old FW !!!
Never because the soul of the AFX is to move forward to better modeling. Period.
So get rid of these and keep us updated, please cliff, as far as you can in terms of IT Techs.

What's more i'm fully ok to get rid of some advanced param i never use. And even less amp choice... there are so many amp in fact as a vast majority of peop' I use about 10 amps max. ok... and i move from 10 to others tens ...!!

What makes sense for me is to have the last fw for better feeling and sound texture, staying as simple as possible on the amp usage. With a good modeling amp, my point of view is that standard params along with eq are widely enought to get to great tone.

Release Notes:
Fixed bug that could possibly cause crashes/lockups.

I have been happy with the sound of the AXE FXII for some time, and I thank you for all you have done to improve your product over the years.

Could this bug at least be fixed for MKII users?
It would be a shame for the final 5.03 firmware version for MKII users to have a bug that could cause crashes/lockups.

100% this. If there is a known bug that could cause crashes and lockups that is not good news at all. That is not some small concern bug. Even if this is the only thing that gets fixed in a firmware update for I/II users that would be extremely appreciated. Doesn't sound encouraging moving forward with that kind of a bug onboard. I already said in a thread a while back that as long as the last firmware we get is bug free I'm totally satisfied and appreciative of everything Fractal has given us. This place completely rocks, but please no bugs, particualrly of that nature.

Exactly. I never use the old versions NEVER. I did the first time Cliff put them in just to check it out and I never thought about it again it's a feature that I bet most users of XL and MK don't use. I bet over 90% of users don't even use. So why would you keep in a feature that most users by far don't use? I'd rather have the latest update than old firmware that is inferior imho. I sure hope Cliff figures something out.
I'm afraid it's not that simple. If you update from FW18 to Q6 for example, you'd be happy not to see your patches destroyed when putting on your Axe Fx after FW update. The other way round would probably be to upgrade/increment versions one by one pace by pace up until the forelast version, it's a bit longer but it should work. Howbeit, Q6.0 would obligatory need the 5->6 compatibility. Well, let's just wait and see.
