Axe-Fx II "Ares" Rev 2.00 Firmware Release

Two months ago I bought Axe Fx II without knowing about new software. I was struggling wether to spend almost twice as much fot FX III or to buy FX II with MFC 101. Now, when I found out about ARES 2.0 release I'm shure FX II was a good decission for now.
By the way, amazing attitude thorwards users of older equipment from Cliff and his company, thx a lot :)

Bot and Edit were updated in November for 2. Do you really need a new Ares? Suppose there is that possibility ... I don't think it could sound better.

At this point is there any chance that the list of amp models might be changed for an AFII? Or has development of all that ceased?

My wish list would be for a way to pick and choose which amp models are uploaded to my AFII, out of a larger, complete list of available models.

I am sure beyond doubt that there are more models than an AFII has memory for. To be able to pick and choose the ones I want to use would be efficient and practical.

Personally I'd like to see all revisions/stripes of the Mesa Mark III made available. Black dot/black stripe, red stripe, blue stripe, green stripe, purple stripe. They all have their own distinct flavors. Of all of them the blue stripe is my favorite. Super aggressive yet very smooth and musical.

I'm still overwhelmed and happy with ARES 2.0 on my AFXII. I would load a new firmware, but getting ARES was such a huge event I doubt we will see more firmware on our legacy devices.

I'll keep rocking this bad boy and see what comes with AFX 4 or AFX 5. :p:cool:

I have not checked this thread in quite a while now but I do look every once and a while and I have been pleasantly surprised in the past. IO don't really expect any more updates but I do think it's still possible. I am still in love with my Axe-Fx 2XL+ and I am still discovering new sounds and still learning more about the unit all the time. Yes I would love an Axe Fx 3 and I am even considering getting an FM3 but I will most likely wait it out till the next generation of Axe fx's Perhaps it will be the 3 Mark I or XL+ or maybe it will be an Axe Fx 4 or 5 or whatever but I expect there will be something that sells me on upgrading.

I bought my unit just before the 3 was announced and released but I was not at all disappointed and getting the Ares was totally unexpected and another reason I don't regret waiting for the 3. Had I waited for fo the 3 I would have been without any axe fx unit for a few months and that time I could never get back. I will keep checking here from time to time and who knows? Maybe we will get some more free gifts.

Trying out new guitars breathes new life into old firmware. Money and a III just around the corner.
And the one most of us easily forget - new strings!!

I remember finding the AX2 starting to sound dull and a steady loss of high end over time but then one day I changed my strings ........... and there was my glorious sound again :)

I remember for a long time on the forum, Cliff said that he had found a way to convert amplifiers from Ax-Fx III to Ax-Fx II. Since he spent all this time improving the Ax-Fx III firmware, he did not have time to implement this idea. For me, the news on the Ax-Fx III forum about the sensational Cygnus Beta firmware, which is sensational in terms of reviews, is very interesting. I have a question for Fractal's specialists - “Can we hope that the advantages in sounding amplifiers in Cygnus firmware will be realized in Ax-Fx II in the future? English is not my native language, all complaints are against Google translator.

Yes, you can hope, but no, it will not happen. The Axe-Fx II is EOL (end-of-life = legacy = discontinued) when it comes to firmware updates.

Sadness. (sadly). I understand that the power of the Ax-Fx III processor is not comparable to the Ax-Fx II But I still "hope" that the rules serve to break them by exceptions. For example, to convert an improvement in the new Ax-Fx III firmware into Ax -Fx II, at least partially. :)

FAS constantly provides free improvements and new features through firmware updates for a very reasonable period after the release of the hardware. But FAS makes money only by selling hardware. It makes no sense (IMHO) for them to keep updating a device which was introduced 10 years ago and has been superceded by a new generation of hardware. Also, the old device simply has no room for new or improved stuff: https://wiki.fractalaudio.com/wiki/index.php?title=Axe-Fx_II#Discontinued
