AX8 Not working like a tube amp

That gain is pretty high

I actually have one of my pedals linked to the preamp gain and when the pedal is back it is at about 4.5 and when depressed up to about 8. Master is at sweet spot. So I can cover many sounds with this setup and my volume knob and pickup selector. HSH with coil taps. So from some Eagles, Petty and Skynyrd to Van Halen and Ozzy. Keeps me from pedal dancing.

Try the factory blues aroncino patch, with my Les Paul it has a huge range of clean to rawk.

I think it uses the plexi 50 amp

The AX8 keeps reminding me of how awesome it is. I'm playing an edge of breakup amp setting, and dig in a little, and it breaks up perfectly - such a good feeling. Seriously - I say in my head "wow that feels good".

That's very likely the reason you aren't able to get it cleaned up much with the volume knob. Try lower gain and you'll get closer to the results you desired in your op.
