ARGH!! Trying to get started w/FCB1010

LAYGO

Ok, I'm a noob when it comes to this, but I'm not stupid. For the world of me, I can't figure out what I've done.

I was fiddling w/Ripwerx in an attempt to get some control at my feet before band practice tonight. I've had the Ultra & FCB1010 for almost a year, but never got to fiddle with it as much as I've wanted to (I'm still on 5.04!).

I just wanted to setup about 3 patches (2 presets, 1 custom) on the FCB1010. I was editing in Ripwerx, sent the file & the FCB display was ".0-" for awhile & nothing. I had previously initialized UnO w/stombox mode on and had setup SYSEX RECV too.

I had successfully got a dump from the FCB prior to this & was uploading a modified one, but it never changed from ".0-". I tried to get another dump & Ripwerx just sat there at "building editor panes" for too long, so I stopped it. Tried again, same result.

I've since re-initialized the UnO, but I'm still stuck in Direct Select & it seems I can't change anything.

If anyone has a moment to help with this, please! PRETTY PRETTY PLEASE!

Other useful info, if it helps:
Ripwerx 2.1
UnO 1.0.2f
Axe-FX 5.04
MidiSport Uno w/latest drivers (yes I know it's bunk, but my UM2EX is on the way, should be here tomorrow)

Hmmmm, I restarted Ripwerx again. I was able to get a dump (crazy settings!), going to try to upload agian.

If you bought the UnO from ossandust I think you'd best email him with this one. I bet he'll be right back with the support, although it's 10:20pm in Belgium right now.
I haven't a clue. I've set it up once and it's been working fine since...

It's hard to help with those things...
Some questions and thoughts:

1. After you put in the UnO eprom, did you initialize the extended memory? (it's done by press and hold 1+9 on powering on)

2. You said you have your FCB in stompbox mode and did the initializing for it, too? You're sure you did (and not what I described above)?
BTW, initializing is done by pressing/holding 1+10 on powering on.

3. Have you tried disabling direct mode and enabling sysex receive, but NOT with the editor but on the unit itself (global settings)! I'd make
sure those settings are correct before connecting to Ripwerx.

4. Try making a new setup from scratch (with the Ripwerx) instead of loading and editing the old one; maybe there's a fault with that.

If those things do not help, ask for help at the UnO yahoo group: http://launch.groups.yahoo.com/group/fcb1010_uno/

Good luck!

Sorry I'm late - it's 1:15 by now...
I'm afraid I don't have much to add to Sebastian's suggestions. Except definitely to wait till tomorrow and try out your new MIDI interface. You probably have already looked at the MIDI interface database on the UnO forum? Several reports on the M-Audio UNO, with a clear majority reporting systematic or occasional patchdump failures...

Yes I did and did it again today. I was having major problems with the Ripwerx crashing anytime I tried to upload/download (send/get). Once I re-initialized it, it started functioning better, but not perfectly.

Yes, initialized the stompbox mode too.

I did ensure Sysex Receive. Global Mode stopped after I reinitialized & uploaded the Voes AxeFX.syx.

I've tried that too. I've tried several diff syx's. Still the board is behaving odd.

I've asked on there, but no mention of help for the issue, just getting me the files.

(trying from scratch)

Pertinent info:
Ripwerx v2.1
FCB1010 UnO v1.0.2f
MidiSport Uno v32_4.3.00
Axe-FX v5.04

(yes I know the Uno is bunk, but my UM2EX is on the way, should be here tomorrow)

I was attempting to load a blank new UnO syx & the display on the FCB was similar to "-0.". It wasn't changing, so I tried to send again. Both times getting the message "message sent to device". The display never changed & it stayed that like for 5+ mins, so I powered it off. Tried to download the syx to see if it made it & it crashed Ripwerx. Prior to that, it was working flawlessly. It was even giving me the BIOS version.

So I tried uploading the previous syx again. Then the FCB was in Direct Select mode & wouldn't do anything. I powered it off, re-initialized the FCB's extended memory, re-initialized the stompbox mode, and ensured SYSEX RECV was on. It started working in the UnO method again.

Then I try loading the Voes Axe-FX syx, it started working KINDA in stompbox mode, but still the behavior is clearly off:

1-5 function like presets when I wanted bottom row stomps, ie, clicking 1, it lights, clicking 2, it lights up, but turns 1 off. Each time I hit 1-5, 8/9/10 all light up simultaneously.

If I hit 6 or 7, they'll toggle like a stompbox, ie, I can hit 6 & 7 and they'll both light up, but if I hit 8/9/10, they're behaving like momentary switch.

WTF did I do to my FCB? On top of it all, nothing is happening on the Axe-FX. Nothing is changing. The MIDI light is blinking though.

Is there a way to reset it to factory w/UnO?

That much at least, is possibly normal. With UnO, you can set which row acts as the stompbox switches.
In the UnO User Guide, it's on page 11/12... Global Configuration (Down for ~2.5 seconds while booting up), Step 1: Pedal 8 toggles between Stompboxes on the upper row (lit) and lower row (unlit). Down for another ~2.5 seconds to exit Global Config.

OK PHEW! I found a post on yahoo that showed how to reset back to factory: either 1+6 or 1+7 while powering on, I did both & it worked.

I reinitialized for UnO, initialized for stompbox, initialized SYSEX RECV. Top row is stomp, bottom is preset. No funky lighting on any clicks.

Now I'm gonna see if I can fiddle w/the syx files!

Ok, setting the bottom row stomp in global config isn't working after 3 tries. 8 is UNLIT & top row remains stomp.

Lemme see if I can do it w/a syx upload.

AHHH, I think I know whats going on now. Lemme fiddle some more . . .

Ok . . . I was thinking that I had to be "step 3" on the config light to set stompbox mode on/off, which row, etc. When it's step one. Step 3 is SYSEX RCV.

Ok, the odd behavior continues. A single press of a preset button sends this massive SYSEX Msg.

What am I doing wrong NOW?

I'm guessing it's in SYSEX MODE, but the user guide mentions it per preset, not globally? Any help?

I did a quick experiment to see if something was suddenly adding all this sysex data in a step some where.

I did 3 different kind of resets per Ossandust. 1+6/1+7/1+8 do different Behringer resets. And it's true. You can see the different data being sent with the different resets. When I initialized UnO (again), then stompbox (again), I recorded those values as well, including when I added the Global Config settings of which row for stompbox, sysex rcv, etc.

The user guide mentions stompbox toggling in momentary mode, but never ever EVER defines how that mode is enabled/disabled. Any ideas?

- UnO user guide page 8, "topic 4: CC TOGGLING" : explanation of CC toggling

- UnO user guide page 18, "PRESET CONFIGURATION step by step" :
picture of the FCB, showing that in preset setup step 2, switches 8 and 9 are used to setup toggling for CC1 and CC2

- UnO user guide page 23 :
" Step 2 :
You are now ready to program sysex mode and toggle mode
Press footswitch 8 to set TOGGLE mode for CC1 :
- LED 8 on = TOGGLE mode enabled for CC1
- LED 8 off = TOGGLE mode disabled for CC1
Press footswitch 9 to set TOGGLE mode for CC2 :
- LED 9 on = TOGGLE mode enabled for CC2
- LED 9 off = TOGGLE mode disabled for CC2 "

I guess that's what I get for searching "toggling" vs "toggle" in the pdf!

Regardless my UM2EX worked the first time I used it (came in an hour ago). I didn't realize how much the Midisport Uno was fucking things up! :(

*ALL OF MY PROBLEMS LAST FEW DAYS = MIDISPORT UNO!*

Go figure . . . but I bought it awhile back for use with my GT-8.

Frustrating... Please take the time to add an entry about this in the Midi Interface database on the FCB-UnO Yahoo forum. This might help convince other FCB users not to waste too much time on an unreliable interface. ( I mean - unreliable combination M-Audio UNO + FCB1010. The interface might work well for other stuff )

Well you had told me to wait for the UM-2EX, but I was impatient & in no way did I want to program it manually.

I added a couple of records to the database.
