Are both the balanced and unbalanced outputs...in output 1 active at same time

that is, can i use the XLRs out to the PA, and run the unbalanced outputs to my power amp for my stage cabinet? Reading manual, it is unclear whether both sets of outputs can be used at same time. my ultra shows up tomorrow so i cant exactly experiment with it here yet.

using a mosvalve mv-962 w/ a buzzbomb 2x12 cabinet on stage, sending XLR out to PA. can the direct outs (xlr's) be set for cabinet simulator but the 1/4" outs have cab sims disabled?

You might wanna use Out2 1/4 inch to mosvalve and Out1 xlr or 1/4 to PA .. you have to route your patch with the cab sims in the appropriate row for that to work properly.

yeah i figured that out last night..

I'm now using FX loop output to drive my power amp. this allows me to work around cab sim if i place efx block before the cab block. unfortunately all the presets have the cab block early in the chain so i have to go thru EVERY FREAKIN' PATCH and fix this by inserting a FX loop tap on the signal chain before the cab block.

So now, I think (not verified this yet though) my output1 XLRs will be cab sim enabled (using global parameter) while my FX loop output (output2) is not. and i retain individual volume control of both from front panel...

anyone else run it like this? I don't have my mixer in the house right now to verify this and I have a gig on Friday night...woudl like to know if this would work.

It should work.. I would double check it before the gig to make sure you didn't mess up the routing .. but that's just me,

Mik.

This is a good thread. Just to clarify, I'm going to try this (Output 1 to foh / Output 2 to my guitar cab).

Question: for the "Output 2" (fx send), must I use shielded speaker cable fm Output 2 to guitar amp or can I use simple guitar cable from output 2 to guitar amp?

Speaker cable is generally not shielded. Standard cables are.
No unshielded cable. unShielded cables only go from a poweramp to speakers. use a standard balanced, shielded cable.

No shielded cable. Shielded cables only go from a poweramp to speakers. use a standard unbalanced, unshielded cable.

Javajunkie, i think you're mistaken. From output 2 to a guitar (power?) amp, you should use shielded cable. Speaker cable is unshielded.

Thanks. I just want to avoid damaging the Axe-FX. So, standard guitar cable is OK for AXE FX Output 2 into a guitar powered amp?

Java is extremely knowledgable, but sometimes types faster than he thinks.
Indeed is good quality guitar cable and microphone(xlr) cable always shielded (one (instrument) or two (balanced, mic/xlr) core-wires surrounded by a copper or aluminum shield, connected to ground at at least one end)) and used for every connection except between power amp and speaker.
For that we use speaker cable, that is just two wires next to eachother, like in ordinary electrical wire only with nicer materials and usually thicker.

ooops yes shielded cable. Didn't mean unshielded!!!!!!!! arggh. Not speaker cable, regular guitar cable. Wasn't paying attention when he said shielded speaker cable and just parroted that. speaker cable is like you said, unshielded. I'll correct my post so no else will get confused by that. Actually my thinking is way faster than my typing. My brain has already moved before I finished... ahh what was I typing? I was thinking about something else :D

Fixed. Certainly yes, speaker cable is unshielded.

However, to be clear to the original poster do not use speaker cable from the axe-fx to the poweramp, use standard unbalanced shielded cables.
