Approach to Recording Tones vs Live Tones

Hi everybody,

I was wondering if there are any things you do differently when making tones specifically for live use or for recording as far as eq, amp and cab choices, effects, etc.

Thanks for any insight you can provide!

To me your doing the same thing in a different environment. Listen and adjust. EQ, volume, stereo image, etc. The challenge live is the inconsistency of the dynamics. Your recorded track is etched in stone as far as predictability.

Creating tones in the studio or in the band rehearsal room is where the difference starts for me. A live preset is usually at higher volumes so a bigger space to listen, preferably with the band, is needed.

Most often I'll use the studio preset as a starting point though.
