Anyone know what model is closest to Peavey Classic 30?

I have a few amps left, of which the Classic 30 is one of my favorites. Believe it or not, that ultra cheap little guy is capable of some great jazz and blues tones.

Does anyone know which amp would be closest to it in out Axe stable?

They really are great amps, especially at the price....it just always crack me up to think "i want my 3k doallar modeler to model this 400 dollar amp for me", lol.

I think the Crate Palomino's were very similar to the Classic series, some really good tones to be had from those amps.

I still have one... it was the heart of my mid-volume setup utilizing a Weber MASS set to just shave off a little volume and an Alnico Silver Bell speaker. Nice crunch with the 'clean' channel set to around 4 (I never used the drive channel). With a Barber Direct Drive pushing it when needed, a Phase 90 and Roland DD-20 it made for a quick setup rig that covered most of my old Classic Rock band's setlist.

So, a +1 for this amp.

I had a 1x12 Palomino- that thing was fantastic!

The reverb was great below 9:00, and the power-amp breakup was worth a lot more than the price tag.

When they first came out, someone said the Classic 30 was a near-twin to one of the newer Fenders, like a Blues Deluxe or HR Deluxe or something. It could have been the other way around with Peavey doing the twinning. I think the only model in that era of folded-chassis Fenders is the Blues Junior, which I know has like half the power and probably different tubes all the way around.

Sonically, however - I'd have to think you could get close by mixing and matching amps and IRs and other things. Not much help, I know. After 18 months of playing mine, I can't believe there are too many amps sounds not obtainable with some effort and knowledge.

Circa 1985, this 2x12 classic with built in phaser was my go to rig for years! Cannot recall if it was a 50 or 100watt. It is collecting dust at a friends place.

Funny you say this. I was just mentioning to a friend how it felt funny to be playing my AxeFX II with the Blues Jr. model this morning in the same room where I have an actual Blues Jr. amp! It comes down to flexibility, the AxeFX will model that amp while at the same time giving you a zillion different ways to customize it. The amp itself will have a few knobs and that's about it.

Rush?

I still have my '88 stereo chorus. It's solid state but I love that thing. It the over drive is terrible on it but it sounds like gold with stomp boxes in front.

I just sold my C30 last week, they're fine amps but I don't miss it, TBH. :) My understanding was that they are fairly original as far a simple tube combos go and have more overlap with British (Vox/Marshall) amps from a ckt perspective than being the traditional Fender knock off that many small combos are.

I owned one of those Classic 30 amps years back- was a great sounding amp. I think mine was stolen out of a gear trailer.. always missed that one.

OK. I need to shoot an IR of the combo so I can do some sort of valid comparison.
Unless you already know of a similar/equivalent cab I can use for this.
