Amp tones from the ground up

yes, it seems like quite a lot at first, but it isn't 2000 cabs really, but 2000+ IRs. Most cabs have 8-14 IRs shot with different microphones in different locations.

Most of the time you should be able to narrow it down to the type of cab and/or speaker and then it's just a matter of finding the right IR in that range of cabs.

Thanks for that perspective, very helpful indeed!

Once you start to “learn” all the speaker types & mics and their characteristics it won’t seem like nearly as many. I think at first, (for me anyway) it seemed pretty overwhelming because there isn’t really any great descriptive identifier in the names of the speakers, so it becomes learned through repetition & familiarity. It’ll happen quicker than you think if you just start digging in & listening, the dots will connect themselves. Obviously looking things up & reading about things will help you along, like for example, what EVH used for speakers or Hendrix etc.. this kind of research will also impart you with the knowledge of just how important and how much the speaker plays a roll in your overall tone. It’s huge. The better you get with the Cab Block & IR’s the quicker & easier with less Amp knob twisting you’ll be able to dial in the tone you’re after.
