Amp Input Gain

So, there used to be an oft-mentioned guideline on this forum to reduce the Input Trim on an amp, when using a humbucker, if you wanted to make it sound more like you were using a single-coil pickup (With respect to input signal strength, not tone). I think the recommendation was to change the Input Trim from 1.0 to .5 . Does anyone know when this setting got changed to a dB value? How one would make the adjustment outlined above or in other words, what would the new recommended value be in dB?

-6dB

Setting input trim to -6 dB (previously 0.5) cuts the input signal level in half and simulates using the low sensitivity input on amps that are so equipped, like many vintage Fenders, Marshalls, and Voxes.
